*** Your senior pal needs more care as he/she ages**** At Promises Kept will find the right paddock pals for him/her.
We groom all horses regularly; to monitor their condition. The TLC & human interaction go a long way in keeping the horses healthy and happy.
The farrier calls every four weeks so you can arrange to have your horses feet trimmed on a regular basis.
Horses are more at risk of colic in the winter. They may not drink enough water. Just like you and I they don't want to drink freezing cold water when it is below 0. There is always clean heated water available to them. Two buckets of sparkling clean water placed in their stall every night. Salt licks are in the stalls year round. We grain twice a day, and will keep your horse on a custom diet to fit his/her needs, with wheat germ oil added in winter. All horses here get all the hay they can eat. The hay is mixed grass, & quality is monitored before hay is cut from the 90 acres adjoining the pastures.
Horses are wormed on the 2 month schedule to help keep the parasites down. Summertime stalls are cleaned 1st thing in the AM, to help keep flies from hatching. The barn is sprayed during the day when the horses are out. There is biological fly control in the pasture, which helps reduce horse fly population. Horses are sprayed with repellent, & we are only too happy to put your fly bonnet on your horse daily.
The indoor turnout (which, at any other stable would be an indoor arena) can be accessed from several paddocks. It is almost 40' wide and over 225' long. Your horse can get shelter from sun, wind & weather, & still have room to move about and keep fit. Paddocks all have hills; this helps your horse keep his/her muscle tone. If your horse needs routine exercise this too can be arranged.
As long as a horse gets a good winter coat and is not showing signs of physical stress we don't usually blanket them. Some horses don't get a good coat, or may not be in great physical condition when they arrive. In that case we ask that you to supply blankets and or turn out sheet so we can keep your horse comfortable. Residents are required to show proof of coggins and immunizations.
